Swedish National Defense College

The Swedish National Defence College, designated FHS in Swedish, has existed in its present form since 1997. The College’s roots can be traced back as far as to the Artillery College in Marieberg in Stockholm, which had been established already in the 19th century.
Today’s College constitutes the latest step of development in a long line of military educational tradition.
The College’s task is to contribute towards national and international security through research and development. Research is carried out within partly diverging subject areas and subsequently disseminated to other sectors of our society and also to other parts of the world.
The College trains and educates military and civilian personnel in leading positions, both nationally and internationally, which contributes towards the management of crisis situations and security issues.
The training and education at the College is not offered by any other university college in Sweden for the simple reason that the knowledge and skills represented here are not to be found elsewhere. It is no coincidence that teachers and professors from the Swedish National Defence College are often to be seen in the media as experts in the public debate.

The Disarmament, Demobilisation & Reintegration (DDR) project is an international cooperation between Sweden, Norway, Canada and Germany. Since 2000 SNDC has been the Swedish authority responsible for the Swedish part in the project. The Swedish part of the project is financed by the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs. Our international counterparts are NODEFIC Norway, PPC Canada and GTZ Germany.
