The Disarmament Demobilization and Reintegration course is a 2-week foundation course packaged by the KAIPTC in collaboration with international consultants. It is being funded through a project of the German Technical Cooperation (GTZ). This course will be the 8th DDR course to be run by the Centre since its establishment in 2003 and the 5th course modeled on the United Nations Integrated Disarmament, Demobilization Reintegration Standards document (IDDRS).

The aim of the course is to provide training in preparation and planning of a DDR program in an integrated UN mission. The training will follow the Integrated DDR Standards, adopted by UN 2006. The course should be considered as an advanced secondary course on DDR. The participants are supposed to have done a basic DDR course and/or have experience from DDR in the field.

The KAIPTC DDR course has been specifically adapted for the West African sub-region. The aim of the course is to enhance regional peacekeeping capacity by providing those attending the course with a thorough understanding of the principles and procedures involved in the planning, co-ordination and conduct of DDR. DDR is examined from the civilian, military and police perspectives.
