6th ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING OF THE IDDRTG 1-3 JUNE 2010

The 6th Annual General Meeting of the IDDRTG was held as scheduled. The meeting was declared opened by the Director General of the Folke Bernadotte Academy (FBA) Stockholm. It was observed that attendance at the meeting was quite impressive compared to the previous years. Participants at the meeting included: Colonel brahim Yusuf (KAIPTC), Herbert Carlen (NODEFIC), Mamadou Kane (EMP), Ashkenazi Michael and Marius Kahl (BICC), Hans Thorgren, Bengt Ljunggren and Monica Wulfing (FBA), Irma Specht (International Alert),Nick Tomb (CSRS), Evariste Karambizi (UNITAR), Glaucia Boyer (co-chair IAWG-DDR) and Donato Kiniger-Passigli (chair IAWG – Capacity Development). Although Lotta Hagman from DPKO (co-chair IAWG-DDR) was not at the meeting, she made her presentation via Skype. Some of the highlights of the meeting include the adoption of the minutes of last meeting, update of DDR training calendar for 2010/2011, experience sharing, highlights of IAWG’s work plan for 2010/2011 including request for additional training. DPKO made a presentation on an e-learning/CD-Rom on DDR training. Furthermore, the Mission Statement of the Group was reviewed and the Center for Stabilization and Reconstruction Studies, Naval Postgraduate School Monterey California was accepted as a new member while UNITAR’s confirmation would be made soon. NODEFIC has now assumed the lead-chair position of the Group. Detailed minutes of meeting would be released in due course. On the whole it was an excellent meeting well hosted by FBA. Members of the Group were treated to some memorable social events such as a drink in an ice bar, dinner/boat cruise to view the beautiful islands that make Stockholm among others.

DDR Advance Course 28 June – 3 July 2010

The DDR Advanced Course on Reintegration is the first advance course that would be run at the Centre. It is a 6 day programme packaged by the KAIPTC with the support of some international consultants, UNDP, DPKO, ILO, IOM and TRANSITION INTERNATIONAL. The course is being funded through a project of the German Technical Cooperation (GTZ).

Release of New IDDRS Modules

The UN Inter-Agency Working Group – DDR have recently released two new IDDRS modules on DDR and SSR as well as DDR and Transitional Justice. The corresponding summary of these modules in the Operational Guide have also been provided.
