The African Centre for the Constructive Resolution of Disputes (ACCORD) (http://www.accord.org.za/web/home.htm )
ACCORD is an international civil-society organisation working throughout Africa to bring appropriate African solutions to the challenges posed by conflict on our continent. It offers courses on conflict management: a set of three-day courses that aim to provide an overall understanding of conflict and conflict analysis, and to impart the skills to become an effective conflict resolution practitioner; mediation: an intensely practical programme to prepare people to act as a mediator between conflicting parties; negotiation: This course will assists in understanding positional and interest-based bargaining approaches; and, peace and conflict sector: The Training for Peace (TfP) Programme works in the field of peacekeeping capacity building with a focus on civilian components of peacekeeping, conflict management and civil-military co-operation. The ACCORD Training for Peace Programme operates under the Training for Peace in Africa Project, funded by the Royal Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Recognised by the United Nations as a model for Africa, ACCORD's reputation continues to grow, and the knowledge and experience of the organisation is often called on from as far afield as East Timor, Cyprus and Sao Paolo. ACCORD was founded in 1992.
